Famous shrine of Baba Kamalahiya ji is situated in Dharampur tehsil of District Mandi (Himachal Pradesh). The holy shrine is inside the once considered invincible Kamlahgad fort. The temple of Baba Kamalahiya ji is at a distance of about 25 kilometers from Dharampur town, this temple is the center of religious faith and people from far and wide come to this temple with their wishes. One has to climb approx 1000 steps from the road head to reach the temple. Baba Kamalahiya ji fulfills everyone's wishes and removes everyone's sorrows.
As the legend goes, the baba was basically one of the the disciple among the numerous disciples of Guru Gorakh Nath and originally lived in the divine shrine of Aamr nath. After their education the disciples left in different directions in quest for a quiet and solitary place for continuing their meditation. Our baba was nicknamed “Kamla” by Guru Gorakh Nath due to his deep, silent, meditative nature. He travelled towards the hills of Kangra and chose Ashapuri as an appropriate place for his ashram. After decades as the population around the place grew, the Baba ji left Ashapuri in search for a more suitable place and eventually reached the plateau of Kamlagarh. This place got its name from Baba Kamlahiya ji.
It is also believed that Baba Kamalahiya and Baba Balak Nath ji came together to Himachal Pradesh. Baba Balak Nath Ji settled at a place called Deotsidh/Shahtalai and Baba Kamalahiya Ji came to the present place after a short stay at Kangra. Here Baba kamlahia used to meditate under a tree. Every day, after meditation, Baba used to go to the village to get milk from an old lady. One day Baba went to get milk, even after waiting for a long time, the old lady did not come because she had gone to the forest to get fodder for the animals. When the woman reached home with the fodder, When babaji asked reason for delay, tired & angry lady started yelling at him. Baba ji came back empty handed and thereafter was never seen.
After some time a shepherd, whose sheep & goats used to graze on those hills, saw that one of his goat was spraying milk under a tree over a stone, where Babaji used to worship. Same night the shepherd had a dream in which he saw the divine Baba ji, who said to him that he lived there and same be conveyed to the Raja of Mandi to construct a mandir and a fort which will be impregnable. In the times to come chief fort of Mandi state came up at Kamlahgarh. Today a beautiful temple has been built at the same place.
Since then Baba Ji's glory spreads in all the directions and whoever goes to Baba Ji with a true heart, Babaji alleviates his sorrows, pains and fulfills his desires.
